16 Tips for Greater Sales Copy

1.         Put active verbs in your headline.

2.         Enclose headlines in quotations.

3.         State a major benefit in the first sentence. Then restate it twice more in the body of your text.

4.         Ask a provocative question, then give a provocative answer. (Do you know what three things can reduce your insurance premium? . . . )

5.         Talk about what is important to YOUR CUSTOMERS, not what’s important to you.

6.         Use a conversational tone, leave the office speak in the conference room. And this means you can start sentences with and!

7.         Be specific in your offer (Buy today and get $50 bucks to put in your pocket now!)

8.         Use bullets to make paragraphs stand out.

9.         Use call-outs to draw attention to special offers, contact information, etc.

10.    Use images that strike emotions (cute pets, babies, people running).

11.    Give a surprising offer or state what makes you different (Hey! We never charge for installation OR We’re open every holiday OR We save you $25 off your first order–no strings attached!)

12.    Enhance text with color and use easy to read fonts.

13.    Include customer testimonials.

14.    Tell readers how to contact you and WHEN (don’t make them search for your address on your website).

15.    Always include a P.S. that gives bonus information.

16.    < Psst > Put brackets around your email subject headers. The visual draws attention.
